Screen Cornwall is delighted to be working on the next round of New Creatives, a talent development scheme which brings new emerging voices to BBC platforms. To kick off round 4, let's take a look at our new commissions.
Sravya works at Creative Kernow & Krowji, she has an MA in English and is a newcomer to audio production. Her project, No Flowers Please, is an audio piece that follows a delusional patient drifting in and out of consciousness. A comedy spin on surreal nightmares: vampiric staff, mysterious power cuts, wards rearranging themselves and blood and organs sold off to the highest bidder.
Our second New Creatives commission comes from Jamie Lock, a Falmouth-based poet and writer.
Lockdown on an island. Underage drinking. Second homes. A 28-mile expanse of rising sea
On the Rock is a poetic narration of lockdown life on the Isles of Scilly, told through the minds of young people who live there.
Our third New Creatives commission comes from Sian Esther Powell. Sian has a fascination with folklore, history and cultural heritage, which has inspired Tregonyt Community Radio. This audio project is an excerpt of a news programme from the community radio station of a fictional Cornish village where the legendary creatures of Cornish folklores - mermaids, piskies and giants – exist.
Sravya, Jamie and Sian will be working on their audio project, alongside Screen Cornwall and mentors over the next few months and we look forward to announcing its broadcast on BBC platforms early next year.
