Skills & Training
We run several skills, training and talent development programmes, working closely with partners including BFI Network South West, BBC Writers Room, Calling the Shots / BBC New Creatives and Falmouth University to amplify opportunities for creatives to connect with professional training, support and funding.
Outreach:
Screen Cornwall works with people who have little or no previous experience in filmmaking, through workshops with groups across Cornwall and in education settings. Although we aren’t able to offer work experience placements for individuals, we support young people looking to gain experience through our schemes like ‘Make a Film in a Week’, delivery of BFI Film Academy Short Courses in Cornwall for 16-19-year-olds and partnership working with Falmouth University School of Film and Television.
Entry Level:
We work with people just entering the screen industries, working towards their first professional production credits or full-time employed roles, including recent graduates who have left education in the last two years. We support entry-level professionals by signposting to events and opportunities, hosting networking events to build creative teams and facilitating set-ready skills development through partnership working and development opportunities on shorts we commission.
Early Stage Career:
Screen Cornwall supports early-stage professionals with two or more production credits, working on establishing their screen industry career in Cornwall, who may have left full-time education more than two years ago. We do this through commissions, connections with national programmes, skills workshops, 1-2-1 mentoring, programmes such as Peninsula Producers Network and forging connections with incoming productions looking for local crew.
Experienced Professional:
We also regularly work with established, experienced and expert screen professionals with several professional production credits and those transferring in with advanced skills from another sector. Screen Cornwall facilitates networking events in the region for established crew and talent and makes connections with an increasing number of HETV & film jobs year on year.
