FylmK is an annual contemporary Cornish language short film competition, producing an imaginative and engaging film, in any genre, from distinctive and exciting filmmakers.
Screen Cornwall works with Cornwall Council to commission a short film in the Cornish Language each year. The open call for scripts has unearthed an amazing range of genres and themes being tackled in Kernewek, providing an opportunity to create contemporary content that adds to the brilliant archive of shorts made in Cornwall. You do not need prior experience of working in Kernewek as filmmakers will be supported by the Cornish Langauge Office.
We welcome applications from anyone, whether early stage or experienced, with an authentic and engaging story that reflects a side of Cornwall not often seen. However, your script must be well developed as production is expected to be complete within 9 months of the funding being awarded. Many FylmK projects go on to festival and award success, with 2022’s commission premiering at BFI London Film Festival, we well as receiving nominations at this year’s Celtic Media Festival. In a first for the Cornish language, the BBC have launched a collection of shorts commissioned through FylmK on to iPlayer. We also connect them with Cornish learners & speakers and film fans locally, through our partners at C Fylm.
