Luxulyan Valley, just north of St Austell, is both a beautiful, natural woodland and a fascinating heritage site. Steeped in the remains of the area's mining heritage, the densely wooded valley stretches for 2 miles along the banks of the River Par from Luxulyan to St Blazey.

At one end of the 100m deep valley emerges the magnificent Treffry viaduct, which crosses the river 100ft above the valley floor. Constructed from stone, this ten-arch, early Victorian era viaduct spans 670 feet and is free to be crossed on foot.

Throughout the valley are the remains of the tramroads where carts loaded with mining materials once ran, as well as an abundance of rusted machinery and granite stone once used to harvest water power.

Luxulyan has an abundance of streams that meander through the landscape and the sheer, valley edges create waterfalls and pools of water that intersperse with walking trails, which create a variety of lush woodland scenes.

Although hard to reach, the secluded valley is a favourite with documentary crews such as Cornwall and Devon Walks with Julia Bradbury. If you're looking at shooting with a larger crew, Screen Cornwall can arrange parking with our network of private landowners

Luxulyan Valley is owned by Cornwall Council, which welcomes film and television productions. The Treffry Viaduct is owned and managed by Cornwall Heritage Trust and filming permissions can be negotiated on receipt of a donation to the trust.
