Immersive dome at Pydar Pop Up

On 16th & 17th July, a free public dome experience is being hosted by Screen Cornwall, as part of the wider Tresorys Kernow project taking place in 10 towns this spring/summer designed to regenerate town centres post-COVID through cultural engagement, enabled by the Community Renewal Fund.

Our journey towards making a short immersive documentary entitled Cornwall’s Climate Story has been interlinked with a wider programme of documentary skills workshops for young people. Led by Studio Erma in Bodmin and Satya Films in partnership with Real Ideas in St Austell, young people learned how to create documentary content from scratch with a focus on climate stories in Cornwall. Four short films were made as a result of these workshops which will also be available to view at Pydar Pop-up on the opening weekend.

The final piece, premiering in Truro next month, looks at the past, present and future of our region’s relationship with its beautiful environment and has been created by Engine House VFX, working in Unreal Engine, with sound design by Ciaran Clarke. Dome experts GaiaNova, who helped build the fabulous Market Hall in Plymouth, are building a 6m diameter pop-up dome for the weekend, which we believe is the first of its kind in Cornwall, that will allow audiences to enjoy the short film from reclining chairs viewing a 180-degree screen above them with 5.1 surround sound.

Everyone is welcome to come to Pydar Pop-up in Truro from 10am – 4pm on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th July to visit the dome – no advance booking is required but please be aware you might need to queue for a short time.

Please note that the film will be screened in an immersive dome on reclined chairs. If you are a wheelchair user please contact us ahead of attending the event. Due to the nature of the dome, we are unable to provide audio descriptions or captioning for the film.
