Falmouth University Costume Store

An exciting new costume store is opening in Cornwall. The Wardrobe Store at Falmouth University, Penryn Campus is the only bespoke costume store for film and television in the region. Run by BA Costume Design for Film & TV course leader Dr Julie Ripley, and part of the Fashion and Textiles Institute.

The store contains plenty of different costumes for film and television productions including a good range of contemporary mens and womenswear, workwear and uniforms (first responders, security, nursing, hospitality etc), sportswear, 20th century period dress and medieval period dress.

BA Costume Design for Film & TV has been running at Penryn Campus since September 2020 and in its first semester was made eligible for BAFTA scholarships, one of only a handful of undergraduate courses, and the only costume course that can apply for the prestigious roles.

The course was designed by industry insiders to make sure that students are trained with the skills required by the screen industry. Throughout the course, the students learn to design, cut and construct bespoke costumes and hone their skills as wardrobe supervisors.

The course collaborates with the School of Film & TV, providing industry experience on live briefs, concluding with a fully costumed final year film or TV project.

The store is open to all scales of production based in Cornwall and looking loan out costumes locally, to establish the region as a unique and valuable location and resource for creatives in the screen industries.

The store is currently a pilot scheme to understand how much they will operate in future; at present they are not charging for use of the wardrobe store but are instead looking to engage with productions around giving students real industry experience in exchange for use of the store.

Visits to the wardrobe store are currently appointment only, and all enquiries should email wardrobestore@falmouth.ac.uk.
