Location of the month: Widemouth Bay
Seven minutes’ drive south of Bude, just inside Cornwall’s border with Devon, is the stunning expanse of Widemouth Bay. With over a mile and a half of pristine sandy beach, hundreds of rockpools teaming with sea life and bold waves, Widemouth Bay is a versatile and attractive filming location.
The bay has been a hotspot for television drama, features and advertisements all shooting at Widemouth year after year. Facing the Atlantic Ocean and due to its openness to the sea and propensity for big waves, is a great spot for surfing which attracted Amazon Prime drama ALEX RIDER in 2019. Additionally, THE GUERNSEY LITERARY AND POTATOE PEEL PIE SOCIETY shot at Widemouth in 2017.
The bay has excellent transport links, being only three minutes from the A39. This allows for easy access for big productions needing to take large vehicles and equipment on location. The bay has two beachfront car parks on both the north and south sides, with enough space to park hundreds of cars. The north car park has disabled access o the beach.
