Time for action!

It’s now 6 months since we published our sustainability statement and our intention to start the journey towards B Corp.

So how’s it been going? To be totally honest, it’s been really hard to create space for strategic thinking and specific actions with everything else that’s been going on – G7 coming to Cornwall, summer, ongoing COVID limitations and continuing to improve the services that we deliver on a daily basis around locations & crew, talent development and developing distinctive Cornish work. 2021 has just flown and we’re six months in with COP26 around the corner but not as far ahead with the areas of focus in our action plan as we would have liked.

But it’s not all doom and gloom.

·       Laura has worked with colleagues at Goodfest to put on an inspiring and informative digital event. Out of that day and contributions from 100+ creatives we’ve built the Sustainable Creative Charter which is a tangible set of individual actions people can start to take at whatever pace suits them. And we have plans for an action-focused “sprint” to create further ripples of action early in 2022.

·       Karen has hosted an Albert walkthrough event for filmmakers commissioned to make shorts through us and KESTAV, one of the FylmK Cornish language projects shot this year, has achieved accreditation.

·       Creative Kernow has a whole has started to track carbon footprint from travel and home working, with a report and recommendations to be produced shortly.

·       We’ve joined a cohort of 6 businesses called B Creative, helmed by B Corp guru Matt Hocking who will guide us through all the detailed steps of the Impact Assessment and help us move towards accreditation. Already being part of a community working towards similar goals is proving hugely useful.

·       Our G7 film picked up themes relating to both environmental and human sustainability, and we’ve just commissioned a further 6 standalone shorts with emerging talent which brings to life some more stories that are relevant.

·       And finally, our friends at Feast, part of the Creative Kernow family, have commissioned 12 artist to SHOUT LOUDER with specific content targeted at COP26. You can discover their work at Shout LOUDER - FEAST (feastcornwall.org)
