Screen Cornwall works with schools, colleges, and universities, as well as teachers, careers advisors and parents to provide resources for those considering a career in the screen sector. Our programmes help students explore creative pathways, take their first steps through focused work experience and join industry-leading programmes such as BFI Film Academy.
Over the last few years we have partnered with numerous creative organisations across Cornwall to deliver a huge project-based work experience offer across a range of creative practices, from design to music, arts to screen, and lots in between.
We have also run schools days as part of our Createch event Imagination Unleashed.
With Creative Kernow we support Kernow Youth Collective to develop emerging voices in the sector and with them have co-created the New Creatives Cornwall resources for careers.

Screen Cornwall has supported the BFI Film Academy over multiple years, a UK wide programme for young people aged 16-19 taking their first steps into the screen industries.
Through the Short Course in Cornwall, participants gained hands on experience across all stages of filmmaking, working alongside industry professionals to develop skills, build confidence, and create collaborative short films.
No prior experience was required, and the programme consistently encouraged applications from those underrepresented in the industry.

Cornish Youth News is a youth led media project that gives students the opportunity to learn filmmaking, interviewing, presenting and storytelling skills while reporting on issues that matter to young people across Cornwall. Through creating news style content on topics such as jobs and skills, health and wellbeing, community and the environment, participants gain valuable hands on experience and insight into the creative industries.
Projects like this demonstrate how creative media can be a powerful tool for engagement, helping young people develop transferable skills, discover career opportunities and share their perspectives with wider audiences.

Thanks to various funding from Cornwall Council we have run a number of storytelling and skills sessions with community-focused organisations including Carefree, Disability Cornwall/Cornwall Lived Experience Partnership, The Women’s Centre, St Petroc’s, The Exchange Penzance and PZN Youth CIC.
