Cornwall City of Culture 2025
In early February, Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership submitted our bid for the UK City of Culture 2025, a fantastic opportunity to bring together and showcase the incredible diversity of talent in our creative and cultural sector to the rest of the UK and the world beyond.
Cornwall’s bid is focused on three key themes of People, Planet and Place, with an inclusive year-round programme that is community-centric, responds to the climate emergency and reflects our unique heritage.
As part of the bid, Screen Cornwall has made a series of films entitled CONVERSATIONS FROM THE CHAIR, highlighting the themes through interviews with an array of brilliant Cornish talent. Using the interviews as a vehicle, the participants discuss their background within the creative industries, what Cornwall means to them, why our region is a uniquely inspiring place to create and what Cornwall can bring to City of Culture.
Working with local production company Scout Studio, the individuals were matched with places of cultural or heritage significance. The visual approach was designed to be simple and authentic, with a 3 camera setup offering different perspectives.
Director Ted Simpson of Scout Studio explains that by ‘creating a visually compelling main angle with the interviewee that was consistent throughout the film series, we were able to achieve continuity between the voices and locations, whilst also showing the distinct beauty that Cornwall has. The chair created a relaxed environment where the subject was comfortable within the setting whilst also providing a distinct, thought-provoking balance between them and the surrounding location.’
Stay tuned for the remaining films in the series on Screen Cornwall’s socials and the Cornwall 2025 website.
